Writers write what they know and painters paint what they feel.
My earliest memories are of small farm living and listening to my grandma tell stories. Six decades later, I wrote three novels between 2005 and 2016. In 2015 I set my pen aside, discovered a group of talented artists and began to paint. To my surprise the art forms melded and storytelling, the fictional kind, threaded them.

Above all, I try to write good stories.
Capturing the essence of what you think and feel is the art and that capture must be like the first sentence in a novel that makes you want more. Sometimes you find it. I know of three things: the cruelty of Alzheimer's disease, the importance of choice when it comes to both living and dying and the harsh reality that all life is not valued equally.
I spent ten years of my life crafting the fictional backdrop, perspective and mystery behind each topic, topics no one likes to talk about openly and frankly. Above all, I tried to write good stories. They're layered in mystery like the underpainting in a work of art. The characters are like my brushes -- they guide the plot. Humor, empathy and emotion are like the globs of juicy paint in my brushes. When mixed they provide the color and richness necessary to avoid morbidity and sanctimony and allow readers to engage, find their own way, and develop their own perspective on these timeless and time relevant topics.
